It’s True. We’re Closing.
I realize this news may come as a great surprise, but despite building a profitable business in less than two years, I’ve decided to close my shop permanently, as writing is something I can no longer do, part-time.
In January of 2023, I began to work on this business, developing the branding as well as the mission. I spent months finding and curating the best art supplies, stationary and gifts. I brought in local art and art from Indigenous and Canadians artists across the country. I turned this empty shell into a positive and joyful community through the retail shop and through our in-house workshops. I spent nearly every minute of the last two years giving my everything to this shop and the community I have built here.
Despite all of this, it has become very clear that I need to get back to my writing, full-time. Having six books published in the last three years was daunting, and I was incredibly burnt out from the writing and the publishing world. Working on this business was a much needed reprieve for me. It allowed me to share my deep passion for creativity and the ways in which it has transformed my own life. It allowed me to meet and get to know so many wonderful people from my community, that I now care greatly about. It also allowed me to leave the house after writing alone in a room for fourteen years.
Only my first love of writing could ever take me away from what I’ve built here, but alas, so many more books are calling, and frankly, quite rudely and eagerly, and I must get back to my writing desk, fully. The two novels I’m currently working on are demanding too much of my time and heart.
Below, you will find information for those who have not redeemed their gift cards or gift certificates.
But before I sign off, I want to acknowledge and thank every person who has supported this heart-filled shop. I also want to give special thanks to the Effie & the Fox VIPs, the kind and loving customers who supported us regularly, and who have left such a mark on my heart. (There were many other special interactions as well, from locals and tourists who came in once or twice and whose name I don’t know.)

And a very special mention to Anong Beam and Beam Paints who I absolutely loved to work with. I shall miss you all.
I hope I’ve brought a little more JOY and a little more light to your worlds. I’m sorry I couldn’t stay longer, but writing is my oxygen.
Keep Making Bad Art! I’m about to follow my own advice.
Love, Danielle xoxo
